Bar Chouette

My man and I came here for a fun date night out. We were seeing the Barbie movie at 9pm so we challenged our dinner to be somewhere new, walkable & cool, so we naturally stumbled upon newly opened Bar Chouette. This place has been on my must visits as the carrot hot dog was just so intriguing to me and its also the passion child of Foreign Concept ,Chef Duncan Ly. Located in The District on When we walked in, it was visually stunning, romantic, intimate, cool; this place was just dripping in details! The bathrooms were definitely top tier with different themes and neon glows. We took some time to look through the menu and considered the servers recommendations. Our meal was nicely paced out for us to enjoy each of the dishes. We started with oysters (we get oysters everywhere) and the sea buckthorn mignonette was so so good. The scallops were honestly a weird texture since they were cured and I'm used to pan fried. The steak tartare was my favourite dish of the evening (okay maybe the crumpets were), and they were served with these charcoal crackers that they should sell by the bag!! We got the carrot hot dog that was so delicately prepared, it's such a clever idea. I would say it's my top carrot find in calgary haha. Okay, we also had the grilled char siu squid, stuffed chicken wing and smoked trout pate, all very tasty. I am a dessert girl to my core but I was too stuffed and low key, they didn't have anything calling my name, so we passed on it. We had a few different cocktails but the stand out was their #shakestirstrainbow fundraiser feature, Plum Good. So beautifully layered and good. This place is 10/10 for an intimate night out in Calgary!
